Book Fair and Authorfest, featuring Marc Tyler NoblemanDear families, This week students really enjoyed immersing themselves in the world of books via multiple visits to our school book fair. This is always a favorite event of the year and this year was no exception. We got to hear from prolific author Marc Tyler Nobleman on Tuesday. He spoke about researching the artists and authors of famous comic books like Spiderman and Superman. He also talked about his life as an author and how he began back in second grade. Many were surprised by the story of Bill Finger, the co-creator of Batman who never received recognition for his contribution of artwork and ideas to the hugely successful franchise. Even today, it is hard to find his name on any related books or materials. Students left excited to make books and some looked through our superhero book bin to try to see if they could find the names of the artists on the Batman books we have in class. On Friday we met in our cross-age group Constellations for the first time. Students traveled to different classrooms throughout the school to share a meal with their group with members from Kindergarten to 8th grade. On Tuesday we will run the Turkey Trot with our Constellations. This is a fun run on the field hockey field meant to build school spirit of community. Students also worked on Friday with Literacy Helpers to make signs for the stations around the field as well as posters to advertise the event, which you can see hung up around the school.
